My best friend and I got this excerpt from Jack Kerouac’s On The Road tattooed three days before our college graduation. We both had read the book on separate occasions and it strengthened our friendship and renewed our outlook on life.

I am trying to embrace being single for the first time in about 6 years after two separate relationships that ended very sadly and destructively. I am working on self validation, understanding that one day I will be respected by a man, and in the meantime seeking what makes me shiny on my own. I love Lady Gaga, and this line and word rings very loudly with me.
