I got this done in August 2011 by Danielle at Wild At Heart tattoo studio in Brisbane, Australia, and I’m in love with it. Danielle was incredible and I thought it was take really long but it was actually quite quick, and I’m considering getting the eyes coloured :) I picked it a long time ago, I must’ve been 16 I think, when I was really coming to terms with my independence and growing up and starting to become a young adult. When I got a bit older it changed for me, when I moved out of home. Its a symbol of me protecting myself, watching my own back. Its my first tattoo of many more to come.

The name J.Reyez (pronounced J.Rise, Eyez with an R) is my stage name as a recording artist (http://youtube.com/JReyez) (http://twitter.com/JrEYEZ) It’s a concept of always going up with what I do and the word “reyes” in Spanish means to be on top; like a king The phoenix represents the same thing and when a phoenix burns out, it rises from it’s ashes and flies again so in a way it would mean that if you fail at something, get right back up and try again. The tattoo is still incomplete but it’s a working progress.
