A tattoo I had done the day after my 18th birthday at In Your Face Tattooz in Fond du Lac, WI. Gavin was my artist. I wanted something kind of along the lines of a family tree, so I went with the tree branch. The birds kissing represent my grandparents who died (blue for Grampa and purple for Grama), the butterfly is supposed to be my brother who was killed two and a half years ago, and the four leaves falling off the tree represent four of my friends who were killed in a car accident. I absolutely love it!!

This beauty was done by Berth’s in Lefaivre, Ontario. 2 years ago while playing a soccer game I collapsed on the field. I will never forget that moment- the moment when my heart stopped. Luckily I survived a heart attack at 17years old. Since then it’s just been recovering, hospital stays, surgeries, medication, and lifestyle change. This tattoo is a reminder to me and everyone I care about to not give up and to keep fighting until the very last beat.

My tattoo of the mountains by the Many Glacier Hotel in Glacier National Park in Montana. I worked in the hotel for a summer when I was 19 and spent my days off in these mountains. It was the first time I had ventured out by myself to a new place, the first time I’d really left home, and it was where I first started to understand nature and see myself as a part of it instead of in opposition to it. I got the tattoo mostly because I was 19 and feeling adventurous, but also to remind myself of this time in my life when I made a big leap into the unknown and had been caught by the universe. I wanted to make sure I returned to Montana one day, and I wanted to make sure I remembered to keep leaping into the unknown. I’ve done both.

Just got this today at Chroma Tattoo in West Bloomfield, MI. I call it my “Escapist” tattoo because the idea was inspired by the song by Nightwish called Escapist. No matter where I am, whatever I am working on or doing, I always long for something bigger and better. I’ve always been a dreamer, and the song lyrics, by dealing with escaping reality into a fantasy paradise, were the perfect ingredients for a great first tattoo. Huge thanks to Jason James Benci, the artist who gave up his only day off this week, to make this masterpiece a part of me!
