Tattoo #8. This past November I was lucky enough to get to travel to Nairobi, Kenya. While I was there, I started planning my “Africa tattoo” that I was going to get when I got home to commemorate not only my first time visiting the continent, but my first time traveling completely on my own. I originally planned on getting an elephant. I visited an elephant nursery outside the city where baby elephants were cared for after being orphaned due to poaching, but this nursery had rhinos as well. I met one of the two rhinos they cared for, a two-year old female named Solio and I absolutely fell in love with her. She was the absolute sweetest and it was such a surreal experience to be able to sit face-to-face with a rhino. This tattoo was based off a photo I took of her, but I wanted more of an illustrated piece than a realistic one. AJ Godshall from Tattoo Mark’s in Souderton, PA did an amazing job of this tribute I got for her on my shin!
