My second tattoo, the Mockingjay from The Hunger Games. I recently read this book series and completely fell in love with it. The symbol of the Mockingjay particularly stood out to me. In the book, the government creates a type of bird called jabberjays that can repeat entire conversations and are used to spy on the country’s citizens. When people found out about this secret and begin finding loopholes, the government abandons these birds and leaves them in the wilderness to die. Instead they manage to survive and mate with mockingbirds to create the mockingjay, a new type of song bird. Their entire existence shows that beauty can come from even the worst situations. The Mockingjay becomes a symbol of the revolution for the people, a symbol of hope and courage and fighting for what you believe in.
