This was my first (legitimate) tattoo. It’s an armband that is inspired by the work of the Israeli-American street artist Know Hope (thisislimbo.com). I chose this design not only because I love his work and his reflections on the human condition, but I also thought it was fitting because I do tend to wear my heart on my sleeve. I had it done by Jen Munford of Name Brand Tattoo in Ann Arbor, MI. She had to re-design the linework to get it to work around an actual 3-dimensional arm, and I was super-ecstatic with the results. It took about four hours. She did a really good job with the linework, especially considering she said she had never done anything like mine before.
The picture on the right is the outer arm, and the signature on the inside of the heart is from a concert I went to where I met the band and one of the members excited signed the inside of my heart and then exclaimed, “look! she hearts me!” It was pretty awesome.
I originally intended to have the heart colored in red, but I left it blank for such purposes.
