This is Mr. Inky, the lobster that lives on my right thigh. This is my second of two memorial tattoos (the first being a sea turtle on my back) and most recent of my four tattoos total. I got the lobster in memory of one of my best friends who died in a traffic collision at age 21. She had a sort of weird obsession and fascination with lobsters. The banner says “Danny Doesn’t Die,” which is a reference to (/kind of a spoiler of) the movie Hot Fuzz. The first time we watched that movie together, she started crying at the end because she thought one of the main characters was dead. We had to pause the movie to assure her that Danny does not, in fact, die. I miss my friend every day, but this tattoo has definitely helped me heal and it fills me with fond memories whenever I look at it.
The tattoo was done in two sittings, about 7 hours total, by Dan at Primal Decor in Eureka, CA. The tattoo is his design and when he sent me the sketch after our consultation, I almost cried because it was almost exactly what I had pictured in my mind. I’ve been tattooed by him twice now and I’m honestly pretty nervous about the prospect of being tattooed by anyone else.
