This is my golden spiral tattoo. It’s the logarithmic spiral of an irrational mathematical constant, approximately 1.61803398874, but I’m not a mathematician and that’s not why I got it. 
It’s a proportion that is inherent in nature: in the growth of plants; in the proportions of the human face and quite possibly in the outward growth of the milky way. It’s a ratio that links everything on our planet, but also has a scientific explanation which is why I love it so much. 
I think it’s possible to have a belief in the finite, non-spiritual nature of our lives and still see the beauty of everything in it. 
The first tattooist I went to said they wouldn’t do it because it was too hard and too straight (psssh) but the guys and Ink & Steel in Leeds, UK were super confident and did a fine job.
