“Only after the last tree has been cut down.
Only after the last river has been poisoned.
Only after the last fish has been caught.
Only then will you find that money cannot be eaten.”

This is my first tattoo. I got it at Tattoo 22 on a snowboarding spring break trip to Jackson, Wyoming this year. The picture was taken and made into black and white by one of my best friends, Bryan, a few days after getting it.
I have always loved the environment and being outside; playing sports my entire life caused me to be outside, so I just learned to love it. I was never really environmentally conscious, but that changed my senior year of high school. This lead to focusing on how I can save the environment in my college years. I wasn’t the most vocal about my views, nor did I (still don’t really) volunteer a lot, but I made small (and big) changes to my own life to fit with my new ideology. I thought I had figured things out and made a firm stance on environmentalism before going to Wyoming my senior year of college. I was wrong.
I had never been out West and seen the raw, rugged beauty that people speak about. After a 31 hour bus ride there, five days of boarding in Jackson Hole with one of my best friends Chris, and the bus ride back, I was completely changed. The majestic nature of the American West solidified my environmental views. On the last day I had there I felt that I needed to commemorate the whole experience, so I decided to have one of my all time favorite translations of a Cree prophecy placed on my arm.
I absolutely love everything about this tattoo. It’s the best $180 I’ve ever spent!
