there’s quite a bit going on back there. the wings are from a cover by placebo. i’ve always wanted wings ‘cause they mean freedom in such a big way and i felt this could help me get a bit closer. the keyhole was done by a great friend of mine. one of her first ‘uns. i know it’s wobbly but it means a great deal. we’ve moved apart but i like thinking that this brings us a bit closer. she’s the only one i’ll let touch this again. on my lower back there’s the symbol for ‘gonzo’. if you’re a fan of hunter thompson then you’re probably familiar with this. to me it means more than the path i’ve chosen (journalism), it’s a ‘way of life’. the bats are from ‘fear and loathing in las vegas’ as sketched by ralph steadman. that book strikes deep within me. i like to think my tattoos tell others about who i am so that i might not have to explain. ‘fore-warned and fore-armed’. if i could be a bit more like that ink i could be the sort of person i like to think i am, not who i act like. i think i write really extensive captions.
