This is a slightly more minimalist depiction of Jeremy Bentham’s Panopticon drawn with the steadiest hand in the state! Kara from Lark Street Tattoos in Albany, NY. The “panopticon” is a prison design that lets the guards get a 360 degree view of the prisoners while the prisoners cannot see whether or not the guard tower is staffed. Thus, everyone always acts as if they are being watched. Michele Foucault used Bentham’s panopticon as a metaphor for how the state exacts discipline on its citizens.
