I got this tattoo at Skinks Tattoo Parlour in New Zealand when I went over to visit my family last summer from Scotland.
The tattoo represents my family in New Zealand. My family has always been amazingly close, even though we’re half the world apart it’s like we’re still part of the same pack :)
My dad’s brother married my mum’s sister and they had a girl too, born three days after me. We grew up together like sisters, but when I was six they moved to New Zealand. Then 2 years after that, my grandparents followed them and also moved.
The kahikatea tree is what my grandparents started growing in their garden as soon as they moved there. The silver ferns are the national symbol of NZ, and the Koru symbol in the wolf’s tail is a Maori symbol which to me represents how interconnected one life to another is.
Although I miss them everyday I find comfort in my tattoo :) follow me at www.bekkasaurus.tumblr.com
