I have always felt like my life was a ship at sea with stormy seas and calm waters. I’ve been through a lot of ups and downs in my life but it has formed who I am today. For my love of sailor culture and the ocean, I decided to go with a swallow tattoo. Sailors would get them on their chest for each 5000 nautical miles sailed. For me, the swallow represents the miles I’ve travelled in my life. Where I’ve been and what I’ve had to go through. I got it on my back because you must put the past behind you in order to move forward. But also, like the tattoo your past is permanent and will always be with you. In it’s beak is a lilac branch which is New Hampshire’s state flower, this shows where I come from and no matter how far I travel I will always be home.
Getting this was a freeing experience for me and I had the pleasure of having a family member give me my first tattoo. My cousin Andrew Labanaris runs Iron Hand Tattoo with his friend Kevin Boroski in Cranston, RI.
