These are our (my husband and myself) first tattoos, which we just got yesterday. Both of us have come from opposite ends of the spiritual and religious spectrum, and have ended up somewhere in the middle. Ultimately, we are carbon. No matter how life changes us, carbon still remains. The cycle of all living material on earth is something to be proud to be a part of. For us, that is the “bigger picture”. So simple but still so beautiful, calming and comforting. Also, by a happy accident, carbon’s number of electrons is 6 and it’s atomic weight is rounded to 12. Our anniversary is 6/12.
