My first tattoo. The text means “the best thing god has made is a new day” - god being a nature-based meaning, not the Judeo-Christian god. A lot of this imagery is taken from Sigur Rós and Sufjan Stevens. This tattoo is dense with symbolism, and it would be impossible to explain it all, but the birds, journeying from my left hipbone (and below) to my right wrist is symbolic of my journey of acceptance of my sexual orientation - and the birds number 111 (there are 114 winged creatures total), representing Shakespeare’s sonnets 111-114.
