japanese:isshi to hanaseru ningen ga irunda - otoko to neru otoko ga itatte okashikunai
english (loose translation from the english version novel): some men talk with stones, and some sleep with other men.
this is from the Murakami novel Umibe No Kafuka.  i love the line, the charater that delivers it, and the timing in the story.  i know it doesnt come across well without having read the book, but the meaning that nothing one does is all that strange, is obvious. it also reflects my stance of gay rights (although i am straight), and my love for the most talented modern novelist alive today.  the sakura meaning is always obvious, representing the beauty and frailty of the human existence. i have 4 sakura tattoos, done in japan and hawaii.  if you want to see my most recent traditional sak yant tattoo, you can check my blog.
oh, and i thought i was safe from anyone reading it living in se asia, but these two japanese girls were behind me in line at the consulate and started cracking up, like SUPER loud.  it was awesome to be able to talk with them about it while everyone looked bewildered.
