As an architecture student, I’ve always been particularly interested in both Art Nouveau and Art Deco designs, both of which have frequently included ginkgo leaves. Aside from the architectural and design-related connection, ginkgo trees are also resistant to disease, fire, pollution, and radiation. These trees are, for lack of a more elegant word, incredible. Quite literally, they’re living fossils.
But most importantly, the design is based on something beautiful. The leaf I based my design on was given to me by my dad. He picked it off of a small ginkgo that we own at home.
I couldn’t be more happy with having this little ginkgo leaf as my first tattoo! I plan to keep it as a plain, simple outline.
