This is my first tattoo, located on the ribs on my right side.
When I was little, my grandma used to live with us and my happiest childhood memories are of me and her playing cards. She made up little poems about me and drew little pictures for me while I brought her freshly picked flowers from the garden and sang for her. We played, joked, ate candy and talked and laughed every day. Then she got alzheimers and had to move to a long-term care at the hospital. Now she doesn’t recognize anyone and she has lost the ability to speak. So this sentence is to remind me that I should always enjoy life as it is happening because memory is, after all, very fickle.
The sentence is taken from the song „He doesn’t know why” by Fleet Foxes. It was the first sentence to capture my attention when I listened to their album for the first time back in 2008 and ever since, I’ve been a bit obsessed with it.
